Thomas Bevilacqua is senior counsel at Derains & Gharavi and has more than 20 years of experience in international commercial arbitration, having previously been partner at Foley Hoag and at Winston & Strawn.
He has acted as counsel in international commercial arbitration and investor-State arbitration proceedings under the auspices of, inter alia, the International Court of Arbitration of the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC), the International Centre for the Settlement of Investment Disputes (ICSID), the London Court of International Arbitration (LCIA), the International Centre for Dispute Resolution (ICDR), and the Centre de Médiation et d’Arbitrage de Paris (CMAP), as well as in ad hoc proceedings such as UNCITRAL rules-governed commercial and investment disputes.
His arbitration practice has touched upon the fields of engineering and construction, energy, waste recycling, pharmaceuticals, educational and cultural goods, industrial distribution, software and new technologies, among others. He has handled disputes arising out of tax and regulatory controversies, permitting and concession contract renewals, FIDIC contracts, infrastructural projects, joint venture agreements, distribution contracts, insurance agreements and intellectual property contracts.
Thomas has also acted as arbitrator and represented clients in judicial proceedings both in civil and common law jurisdictions such as in post-award phases, successfully defending or challenging awards in France and the United States. He also advises clients on private international law issues regarding choice of law, forum selection clauses and the Hague Evidence Convention.
He has been distinguished by Best Lawyers in France 2019 and past years in the fields of arbitration and mediation and international arbitration
Thomas holds an LL.M.in taxation from the University of Miami School of Law, an LL.M. in French and EU Law, from the Université Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne, and a J.D. from the Albany Law School.
