Mercedes is an associate at Derains & Gharavi, specialised in international arbitration. Her practice focuses on international dispute resolution in the fields of engineering and construction, real-estate, commercial, energy, international sales and services agreements, hospitality, competition and maritime laws. Mercedes has also developed specialized knowledge in UAE and other Arab laws as well as in Swiss law.

Prior to joining Derains & Gharavi, Mercedes was legal counsel and case manager at the Dubai International Arbitration Centre (DIAC) where she administered complex and high-value arbitration proceedings and scrutinized awards from different jurisdictions governed by civil and common law. She also worked as counsel at a leading Mexican law firm representing multi-national corporations in a wide range of industries.

Mercedes is admitted to practice law in Mexico and in England & Wales. She holds an LL.M. from the University of Geneva and the Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies, and a post-graduate diploma from the Instituto Tecnológico y de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey (ITESM).
